MERLOT - CALIFORNIA
Crushed-It invites you to return to a simpler, easier time of drinking wine, before the supermarket shelves were overflowing with esoteric varieties and countless labels. Sometimes, the classics are the best, and this old-school Merlot hearkens back to a time when a plump, full-bodied, juicy red wine was all that was needed to bring vinous happiness. Crushed-It invites you to kick back, let the everyday worries slip from the mind, and content yourself watching the grass grow with a glass of plump, delicious Merlot.
Crushed-It leaps out of the glass with exuberant scents of blackberries, blueberries and plum jam, along with hints of mocha and lavender. Our California Merlot has wonderful palate presence, rich and seductive, with a plush texture and an expansive mouthfeel. The berries are present on the palate as well, along with the jammy plum and chocolate, finishing with a lingering licorice note.

Merlot certainly has certainly seen its ups and downs in California. Present from the dawn of the state’s commercial wine industry in the 19th century, it wasn’t until the 1960s that winemakers began using Merlot for stand-alone blends. In the 1990’s, it peaked in popularity, with many of the state’s “cult” wines containing a large portion of, and sometimes only, Merlot.
Unfortunately, this rise in popularity led to an explosion of Merlot plantings all over the state, many in locations poorly suited for this finicky variety. The resulting drop in quality led to the development of a bad reputation for Merlot, even though the best examples continued their upward ascension in quality. California winemakers have learned from their mistakes, and today the wines are back amongst the finest that the state has to offer. Crushed It represents the culmination of Merlot’s long and undulating journey and a lovely glass of one of the New World’s classic grape varieties.

WINEMAKING PROCESS: Because wine is made in the vineyard, our special relationship with our trusted California grapegrowers makes the cellar side of the operations much simplified. Crushed-It Merlot is 100% destemmed and fermented in stainless steel, then aged in seasoned French oak before bottling.
